Recently, Shandong Provincial Hospital Affiliated to Shandong First Medical University (Shandong Provincial Hospital) was successfully approved as the pilot project construction unit of the National “Flagship” Hospital of Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and is the only comprehensive hospital selected in Shandong Province.

According to the Policies and Measures on Accelerating the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine Characteristics, Implementation Plan for the Construction of High-quality and Efficient Medical and Health Service System During the 14th Five-Year Plan and Promotion Action for High-quality Development of Public Hospitals (2021-2025) and other documents, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Health Commission and National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine plan to support about 50 hospitals during the 14th Five-Year Plan to conduct the pilot projects for the construction of "Flagship" hospitals of Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. The “Flagship” hospital project of the Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine is mainly through strengthening the construction of disciplines related to the integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, setting up clinical study platforms and multidisciplinary teams, conducting joint research on Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, achieving the integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine with mechanisms, teams, measures and results, promoting the collaborative development of teaching and researching in the integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, playing a leading role in the collaborative development of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine throughout the country.

Shandong Provincial Hospital attaches great importance to the creation of a “Flagship” hospital for Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. Based on the characteristics and advantages of our hospital's Traditional Chinese and integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, we have prepared disciplinary development planing and five-year development goal in various directions, and gradually construct a new model of in-depth cosurgery between Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. At present, the hospital has multiple independent Chinese medicine departments, covering multiple specialties and has been rated as a “12th Five-Year Plan” specialty of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese and a key specialty of Traditional Chinese in Shandong Province. It has four key disciplines of Traditional Chinese in Shandong Province, and is the deputy chairman unit of Traditional Chinese Medicine Working Committee of General Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, the chairman unit of Branch of Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine of Shandong Medical Association, the chairman unit of Male Professional Committee of Shandong Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the chairman unit of Traditional Chinese Medicine Working Committee and Classical Prescription Research Professional Committee of General Hospital of Shandong Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the affiliated unit of Quality Control Center of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine of Shandong General Hospital and Specialized Hospital. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine has long carried out the collaborative construction and consultation and referral of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine with Western Medical departments, and jointly established an integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine center conduct collaborative work between Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in 2021.After selection and strict review at the provincial and national levels, only two hospitals in Shandong Province were selected for the “Flagship”Hospital Pilot Project for Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, of which, Shandong Provincial Hospital has been ranked.

The approved “Flagship” Hospital Pilot Project for the Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine will greatly promote the inheritance, innovation and development of Traditional Chinese in our hospital, promote the collaborative development of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in hospital, accelerate the pace of construction of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine diagnosis and treatment centers, talent team training centers, and medical model promotion centers for major and difficult diseases in the region, and give full play to the “Flagship” role of Synergy of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.
